Meet Sara Awatta

A Voice for Edmonton’s Future

I’m a business owner, community leader, connector, and innovator. I’ve built a career helping small businesses and nonprofits grow, cutting through broken systems to create jobs and opportunities. I’ve also led cultural festivals, dining weeks, music events, women’s empowerment programs, and initiatives that bring people together, mentor young leaders, and give entrepreneurs a platform to succeed.

My work hasn’t stopped at Edmonton’s city limits. I’ve collaborated with governments and NGOs in Canada and internationally on programs that expand women’s economic opportunity, support displaced communities, and build stronger futures. These experiences have shaped my perspective: leadership means listening, acting with accountability, and making sure no one is left behind.

More About Me

Why I’m Running

As a neighbour in this community, I’ve seen the frustrations people share: property taxes and utility bills rising while construction drags on, transit falling behind, and small businesses struggling with outdated City Hall processes. These issues cost people time, money, and opportunities and they hold our city back.

I’ve built my career on solving complex problems in business, non-profits, and community organizations by focusing on efficiency, accountability, and results. City Hall should work the same way. That means projects done right the first time, services that are accessible and responsive, and leadership that listens and delivers.

As your councillor, I will

Make every tax dollar count

By cutting waste and demanding accountability.

Build infrastructure that lasts

With planning that reduces delays and disruption.

Support local jobs and businesses

By streamlining approvals and modernizing services.

Strengthen community safety and connection

With investments in youth, wraparound supports, and safe public spaces.

Looking Ahead

I’m running because Edmonton deserves leadership that connects vision with action, local priorities with global perspective, and economic growth with community well-being.

Together, we can build a city where people feel their voices are heard, their tax dollars deliver results, and their communities are safe, connected, and thriving.
